Instructions for this exercise: What Home Do You Live In?
This Exercise will give you some really valuable feedback both for now and as we move forward. The Exercise uses a sliding scale. You will pick between 1 to 5 for each answer – depending on which one best applies to you and your situation.
And remember, this applies to your life in general, not just with regards to your children or the effects of autism.
On the scale, 1 is the Home 1 option of the pair and 10 is the Home 2 option. Pick whichever number on the scale is most accurate for you.
The system will average your answers to give you some general feedback about how you feel you compare relative to YOUR OWN ideal of a stable emotional life (which is located at 10).

0-25 points: You are probably feeling a considerable amount of discomfort in your emotional life currently. Spending time paying attention to your emotional life may provide you with some relief, and a score of less than 50 indicates you consider yourself to be in need in this area. Adopting different beliefs, making intentional choices about your focus, addressing your long-term fears and frustrations, and learning more about how autism impacts the behavior of your child will be helpful. Educating yourself about the autism and how to successfully manage it, as well as finding support either through a private therapist or through autism support groups may also be very beneficial. Being alone with our thoughts, without the appropriate place to air them out can often make them loom larger and feel more overwhelming.

26-50: You either have a more moderate emotional experience, or you find that some areas are specifically challenging where you rated yourself very low, while you have already mastered others and reached a 10. This exercise may help you to identify the specific emotional challenges you are facing. You have indicated that you feel there is still room to improve in general, so educating yourself about the autism and how to successfully manage it, as well as finding support may be beneficial.

51-75 Points: This indicates that you are doing well with your emotional mastery, and that you feel you have a general handle on living a life that is emotionally stable, healthy and peaceful! Kudos! That’s not to say there might not be room for improvement, but more than likely that is isolated to one or two of these areas where additional work might be helpful.
